Die Calipari, Die

What? It’s German for “The Calipari, The“.

Amidst the various All-American games, recruits verbally committing to schools publicly, Coach Richt’s end of the season presser and all of the talk surrounding which of our underclassmen might be turning pro, lies the fact that Coach Fox’s boys open up SEC play tomorrow afternoon against the Kentucky Wildcats at Stegeman Coliseum.

As if rooting for the Dawgs against Kentucky wasn’t already enough incentive, as a Memphibian, I can’t stand John Calipari. Yeah, I know, it’s business and being the head coach of the Kentucky basketball team holds quite a bit of cachet; certainly more than being the Memphis head basketball coach. But who ever claimed sports fans to be rational?

This game will be a huge test for Coach Mark Fox and his Hounds. Opening conference play with a win, especially against a team like the Wildcats, could do a whole lot for our national prominence. So Go Dawgs! And let’s hope we see something like this half a dozen times tomorrow afternoon.
