Isaiah Crowell and Richard Samuel sat out today’s scrimmage, allowing Brandon Harton and Boo Malcome to run with the first team offense. There’s word that Crowell may be ready to return as early as the end of this week while Samuel remains more likely to return next week.

And there’s confirmation on the nature of safety Jakar Hamilton’s injury:

Sad to hear but Jakar does have a redshirt year available. I’m guessing Sanders Commings along with Bacarri Rambo will now secure the safety spots with Branden Smith and Brandon Boykin manning the corners. We’ll need for some of the younger guys to step up but, hey, that’s why we recruited them here.

I’m a little distracted today. Just got done watching match 2 of the Spanish Supercopa between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Amazing game. But, anyway, the defensive stats are pretty impressive with multiple defensive backs getting pass breakups. Coach Lakatos teaches playing the ball rather than the man, like Coach Willie Martinez advocated and our returners have had a year to perfect their technique. In fact, I believe Branden Smith’s improvement in this area has been mentioned by more than one coach. And I’m sure we all remember his five interception day last week.

Head on over for the rest of the stats along with quotes from Coach Richt.

Addendum:
I can’t believe I completely forgot about safety Shawn Williams. By all accounts, he’s had a very good offseason and camp. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as a starting safety.
