Christian Robinson Injury

Christian Robinson injured his foot late in the 4th quarter of last night’s game and is expected to “miss at least three weeks” according to a story up at Scout:

“Freshman Amarlo Herrera, walk-on senior Jeremy Sulek and junior Mike Gilliard are the only remaining inside linebackers with playing experience.

Other options could include moving outside linebackers Jarvis Jones or Chase Vasser to the position.”

This is potentially a very big blow to our defense. As Mike linebacker, Christian is responsible for calling the defensive plays out to our guys and making sure everyone is in the right position.

Jarvis Jones has trained at both inside and outside linebacker and there are a couple of guys in TJ Stripling the Ray Drew who can replace Jarvis if he were to switch to the inside position. And I wonder if Crowell’s performance last night might cause the coaches to reconsider moving Richard Samuel back to linebacker? Also, let’s not forget that Mike Gilliard had a nice camp. We haven’t heard much about Ramik Wilson but he’s probably going to be in the mix as well.

First Tree and now Christian, two players we were all hoping to rely on this season. We’ll have a moment’s respite next week as we take on Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. But after that, it’s back to SEC play with two Mississippi schools in the row.

Christian is projected to return sometime after week five. With any luck, it’ll be sooner rather than later. In the meantime, this creates more opportunities for some of our guys, particularly the younger ones, to step up their game. Let’s get it done, guys.
