He’s the one knocking your ass out, in case it’s all a blur. Have a nice rest of your season!

Not a safety?

Just noticed this photo at Bulldawg Illustrated from our glorious win this past Saturday:

What, does the whole ball have to be in the endzone for it to be ruled a safety? Clearly, his knee is down and the ball doesn’t appear to be fully across the goalline. What’s the deal here?  Seriously, someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I read Bernie mention yesterday that the kickoff where the Gators got into field goal range on the return occurred only after the Florida guy waved for a fair catch. Now, I didn’t notice the fair catch signal and apparently neither did the refs. I guess I should hardly be surprised that they didn’t also notice this apparent tackle for a safety.

A joyous Halloween!

Well, it’s that scary time of year except that this year doesn’t seem quite so scary. In fact, it’s downright joyous.

I don’t know about you guys but I’m dressing up as Jarvis Jones for Halloween. Hope I don’t scare too many people. Aron White, on the other hand…

Richard Samuel IV

I’ve got a lot of praise for a lot of folks. But right now, I’d like to focus on Richard Samuel IV. Earlier in the summer, I made a post on what an outstanding team player he is and I even voiced some hope that Richard could be productive for us as a running back.

I can’t find the quote at the moment, but I remember reading Samuel say that he wanted to be in a position where the coaches put him in the game because they knew that he could get the job done. Well, Richard did his best Mack truck Energy Bus impression at the Cocktail Party on our last scoring drive as well as on our last possession. He just would not be denied.

Sure, maybe Richard Samuel IV still looks a little awkward running the ball, almost as if he’s trying to earn a grant from the Ministry of Silly Walks.

But, right now, I wouldn’t trade his drive and determination for anything. It’s players with the heart of Richard Samuel IV that make us fans proud to be Dawgs. Well done, Richard Samuel IV. Well done.

Beautiful Scoreboard

You know, near the end there, I didn’t think we were going to pull it off. But despite poor field position, our defense stepped it up and did their jobs. I’m really, really starting to feel it with Todd Grantham and this defense. How many times in years past has our defense given up that critical 3rd or 4th down? How many times have they given up a backbreaking drive late in the game? Not on this day. Jarvis Jones, Shawn Williams, Tree et al. Job very well done.

And near the beginning there, I didn’t think the offense was going to get anything going. But as the game progressed, things seemed to come together and guys started making plays. Like Michael Bennett on a fourth down touchdown catch. Or Tavarres King on another fourth down touchdown catch. And how about those calls? Or the play selection on our last drive, when we needed first downs? Particularly the huge one to true freshman Christian Conley to pretty much seal the game? I was pleased by the calls and by the execution. Guys stepped up.

That’s the thing, isn’t it? If we give ourselves a chance by not making mistakes, we’re a pretty decent team with great, young players who all have bright futures.

It’s a beautiful thing, guys. We’ve beaten the Gators. And I can’t stop laughing.

How ‘Bout Them Dawgs!

Everybody relax, I’m here

Last year, Florida entered the Cocktail Party after a bye week and coming off three straight losses. This year, Florida comes into the Cocktail Party after a bye week and coming off three straight losses. When asked to comment on his team’s morale last year, Urban Meyer illuminated us with this quote:

“I like the word ‘urgency’ instead of ‘desperation.’ ‘Desperation’ sounds awfully desperate. ‘Urgency’ sounds urgent.”

A slightly more ebullient Will Muschamp had this to say regarding the psyche of this year’s Florida Gators:

I wonder if there’s ever been a case of spontaneous combustion on the sidelines during a football game?

Go Dawgs!
