Georgia-Auburn, 1980

Patrick Garbin’s got an article up on his excellent blog, About Them Dawgs! discussing our 1980 game against Auburn, complete with video:

As discussed in Garbin’s post, this was a game of big plays:

I’d be remiss if I didn’t include Herschel’s 18-yard touchdown, which in actuality, covered at least twice that many yards (2:40). Although he had a number of great scoring jaunts in his three years as a Bulldog, especially as a freshman in 1980, Herschel’s reverse-the-field touchdown against Auburn was one of his greatest runs.

It was a great run as Herschel looked to go the other way almost immediately upon receiving the toss from Buck. And check out the great blocks thrown down the field by Buck Belue, Lindsay Scott and Charles Junior, allowing Herschel to turn the corner and score. Just a great team effort and outstanding down field vision shown by a true freshman playing in only the 10th game of his career.

And speaking of 1980, Mike Moss, producer of the documentary, 1980 Dawgs, will be on hand again this Saturday as he, Scott Woerner and “possibly other 1980 players” greet fans and sign copies of their DVDs. Remember that Rex Robinson made an appearance last week at a similar event during Homecoming so you never know who else might show up. Here are the details:

In addition, the “Dawgs” Photography Show by award winning Georgia sports photographer Wingate Downs will be held in the Hotel Indigo Art Gallery. The show is a collection of stunning photographs of Georgia Football Legends from ’78 through the early 80’s. Wingate is the most highly awarded photographer in Georgia sports history and will be on hand to meet fans and sign prints. Note: The photography exhibit runs through late December

Also, broadcasting live from the Hotel Indigo lobby, both before and after the game, will be the Bulldog Sports Network radio shows. Jeff Dantzler and Charlie McAlexander host Bulldogs Game Day. The 60 minute show airs four hours prior to kickoff. Jeff Dantzler, Tony Schiavone & UGA Football Legend Kevin Butler will be hosting the post game show, BB&T Dawg Talk.

The event will be held in the Lobby/Bar area of the beautiful Hotel Indigo.

Times: 11:30am to 3:00 before the Auburn Game and right after the game for 2 hours.
Where: Hotel Indigo Lobby/Bar Area , 500 College Ave. Athens.
No Admission Charge, Cash Bar.

It should be a great time, folks, so head on out before the game and show your support for Mike and his gang. They’ve earned it.

Go Dawgs!
