Note to self: in the next life, become head coach of LSU. Or, really, have a job which requires two assistants.

Posted in Recruits, Videos with tags Football, Sports on Monday December 19th, 2011 \am\31 10:44 am by Big Muddy DawgESPN has a video interview up with Mike Davis during his recent visit to Athens. Regarding how he feels about the Dawgs just getting Keith Marshall’s commitment:
“I’m not afraid of competition, that’s why I came up here to ask, would it be a fair shot between all of us. I’m just ready to come in and compete.”
That sort of attitude is to be commended and will certainly help Mike Davis do well in life. He’s just made an official visit to FSU with upcoming trips to Clemson and South Carolina as well. Hopefully he’ll make one more stop in Athens before his decision.
Todd Gurley’s Shrine Bowl performance
Posted in Recruits, Videos with tags Football, Sports on Sunday December 18th, 2011 \am\31 7:51 am by Big Muddy Dawghttp://twitter.com/#!/KeithRIVALS/status/148165482850156544
Gurley was also named the offensive MVP for the North Carolina team. He had touchdown runs of 1 and 13-yards. He also had a 94-yard touchdown run called back due to a penalty. I’m sure there are highlights of the game somewhere on these here Interwebs but my GoogleFu is weak at the moment. That said, I’ve seen a lot of Todd Gurley’s highlights and his Shrine Bowl performance didn’t deviate from what he’s been showing us all recently.
I know a lot has been made of recent Florida decommit, Mike Davis’ interest in the Dawgs.
And, honestly, if we could get both Davis and Gurley, I would be a very happy Dawg. I believe Davis is a signing day announcement while Gurley will make his decision on January 3rd. I’ve got my fingers crossed for pulling both of them but I’ll be happy with either one.
Todd Gurley video
Posted in Recruits, Videos with tags Football, Sports on Saturday December 10th, 2011 \am\31 3:44 am by Big Muddy DawgCheck out the highlights (definitely worth waiting through the advertisement) of Todd Gurley’s last game, the State Championship, where he went off for 4 touchdowns and was named the MVP:
A while back, Todd claimed that he was planning on making his announcement at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona on January 3rd. This still seems to be the case.
Fingers crossed, folks. Todd is a guy I’d love to add to the roster. His combination of power and speed along with his toughness really impresses me. And, hey, if LSU can have 4 monsters toting that rock, I think we can follow suit. It’s certainly served them well.

Posted in Recruits, Videos with tags Football, Sports on Tuesday December 6th, 2011 \pm\31 2:26 pm by Big Muddy DawgHow important was Keith Marshall’s commitment to the Dawgs?
http://twitter.com/#!/FletcherPage/status/144145644062384129
I have half a mind to join him. This is great news, indeed. The thing I like most about Keith is that, by all accounts, he’s not just a great athlete but also a great student. He just seems like a Mark Richt sort of guy, know what I mean? Also, I kinda dig his initials because they remind me of someone.
Welcome, Keith Marshall, to Dawg Nation! Glad to have you on board.
So that’s one down today and one more to go later this evening. Blake Jackson, a 6’4″ 235 lb. tight end out of Scottsdale Community College, will make his decision tonight among a host of suitors including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Georgia. I hope Blake noticed that Orson Charles was named an All-American yesterday. Check out his highlights:
How ’bout them Dawgs!
Update: Coach Richt is a man of his word.

Update 2: Yes, please.

That’s Todd Gurley that Marshall is referring to, by the way.
New Keith Marshall video
Posted in Recruits, Videos with tags Football, Sports on Tuesday December 6th, 2011 \am\31 2:33 am by Big Muddy DawgAs we patiently await Keith Marshall’s announcement later today, here’s a new video featuring highlights from his sophomore, junior and senior seasons:
It’s a pretty lengthy video because there’s quite a lot to show. After all, Marshall compiled 54 touchdowns and 4,576 yards through his career at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Remember folks, Keith Marshall makes his announcement at 2:45pm ET this afternoon. Fingers and toes all crossed here.
Go Dawgs!
I hope Keith Marshall was watching
Posted in Recruits, Videos with tags Football, Sports on Monday December 5th, 2011 \am\31 3:33 am by Big Muddy DawgHow do you think Coach Richt’s conversation with Keith Marshall went last night?
http://twitter.com/#!/Truthh4/status/143386878287151104
I suspect that Marshall offered our coach his condolences for the tough loss against LSU. And I imagine that this was just the opening into the conversation that Coach Richt was looking for. But it’s not like Richt even had to say much. Large portions of the SEC Championship game, specifically a majority of our offensive drives, should have shown the number 1 ranked running back for the 2012 class all he needs to see.
More on Faton Bauta
Posted in Recruits, Videos with tags Football, Sports on Thursday December 1st, 2011 \am\31 3:33 am by Big Muddy DawgThe Palm Beach Post has an interview up with Jack Daniels, high school coach of recent Dawgs commit, Faton Bauta. You know, it’s a shame the author of the interview has such a plain name. I mean, what is Matt Porter when compared to Jack Daniels and Faton Bauta? Speaking of which, I can’t wait to hear more folks pronounce Bauta’s name, particularly those of the South Georgian persuasion. Anyway:
Is there legitimacy to the Tebow comparison? Some might see the size, the running ability and compare any quarterback like that to Tebow because he’s so well known.
Well, I compare him now because Faton’s a winner. It seems like Tebow wills his way to things. Faton’s willed his way to being a great quarterback. His will is incredible. So, that’s what I think about comparing the two.
It doesn’t hurt that kid is 6’3″ 225 lbs. and runs a 4.54 forty.
But check out how different these two videos of Bauta look. The first features highlights primarily from when he was enrolled at Poly Prep County Day School up in New York.
And the second video shows Bauta in his senior season after his transfer to Dwyer High School in Florida.
Now it could be just the way the highlights are edited. But it certainly seems like Faton Bauta throws the ball a whole heck of a lot more at Dwyer than he did at Poly Prep, which jives with what Jack Daniels is saying:
I knew he was gonna work, and I knew we had good coaches working with him, but the progress he’s made … I think in the beginning it was, how can we manage the game and have Faton make some throws to help us win games, and now our game plan can have Faton take over the game with his arm, which I didn’t think he could do at the beginning of the year.
I believe Faton Bauta is planning to be an early enrollee at UGA. Can’t wait to get him on campus.
LSU beats Arkansas, Petrino very angry
Posted in Pre-game jitters, Videos, You mad bro? with tags Football, Sports on Friday November 25th, 2011 \pm\30 5:23 pm by Big Muddy DawgAlright. So, LSU just beat Arkansas 41-17, pissing Bobby Petrino off in a major way:
And really, who can blame him? Running up the score on a team is at least as bad as running out on a team, right?
That said, the Bayou Bengals’ victory means one thing for the Dawgs: Beat Tech tomorrow. After that, we’ll talk about the rematch with the Tigers for the SEC.
